Sweden’s top ranked male tennis player, Elias Ymer, has played without coach the last few months on the tour. Now the coach issue could be solved for Ymer with the former star, Robin Söderling.
As a tennis nation, Sweden has yearned for another star since Robin Söderling retired after having graced the tour. As a player, he won 10 ATP titles, reached a career high ranking of #4 and is today one of only two players to have beaten Rafael Nadal at the French Open. It appears he could now be back on the tour in a coaching role for Sweden’s hope for the future, Elias Ymer.
According to sources to Tennisportalen, the duo was first seen working together just over a month ago and will work together this week during the Challenger tournament in Båstad, Sweden. Söderling was there Tuesday and looked very pleased from the stands when Ymer won his first round match against fellow Swede Carl Söderlund.
When Tennisportalen asked Elias Ymer about the collaboration he simply said: “We’re just practicing together”.
Whether this is the start of a long and successful partnership remains to be seen.
Tennisportalen has tried to reach Robin Söderling for a comment, but without luck.
